Douglas Carter Beane’s new book re-invents the classic tale of a maid-turned-princess with fresh comedy, wit and satire: with pumpkin, glass slippers, Fairy Godmother and other story elements intact, it is now Cinderella’s turn to rescue the Prince, reminding us once again that in a cruel world the act that matters most is kindness.

CASTING DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT: We are seeking all ethnicities, types, and genders for all roles. Where gender-specific pronouns are used, they are used to describe the gender identity/presentation of the characters and not the gender of the actors playing those characters. We welcome and encourage actors to audition and/or submit without regard to ethnicity, type, ability, or gender.

SEEKING:

ELLA (Seeking understudy only): Female, 20’s. ANY ETHNICITY. Beautiful and expressive traditional musical theatre soprano mix. An elegant dancer, she must have strong dance and partnering skills and great comedic timing. Though no one notices her beneath her rags and quiet demeanor, she is opinionated, charismatic, passionate, funny, and effortlessly beautiful. Idealistic and hopeful, she courageously challenges the prince to change the policies in his kingdom – and helps him discover who he truly is. Always her late father’s daughter, she is determined to see the good in everyone despite her hardships and suffering. We see her blossom into a confident woman.

TOPHER: Male, 20’s. ANY ETHNICITY. Soaring, rich musical theatre baritone to a G. Must have strong dance and partnering skills and great comedic timing. A misguided and lost prince who longs to do something important with his life.  Though brave and heroic, he feels lonely and unfulfilled. Charming but NOT a stereotypical ladies’ man, he is thoughtful, appealing, and innocent – with an unforced goofy streak. Moral, genuine, and kindhearted, he is at a crossroads and must take control of his kingdom and his future. (Also seeking understudy).

TUMBLERS (FOX & RACCOON): To play characters 20s-30s, including the Fox footman and Raccoon carriage driver. ANY ETHNICITY. 5’10” or smaller. Must be fantastic dancers with strong ballet technique for extensive partnering and lifts. Must tumble well: back handsprings, back tucks, aerials, etc. Strong singers for multiple voice parts. Potential to cover as well.

DANCERS: 20s-30s, all genders, ANY ETHNICITY. Must be elegant dancers with solid ballet technique for extensive partnering and lifts.  Strong singers who can handle multiple vocal parts.  Also seeking principal covers and swings.

PREPARATION:
Please be prepared to dance in form-fitting dance attire.  Ladies, bring heels and ballet flats.  Men, bring jazz shoes or character shoes.  Prepare 16 bars of a LEGIT TRADITIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE song that shows your range in case you are asked to sing. ABSOLUTELY NO POP/ROCK OR CONTEMPORARY MUSICAL THEATRE.  Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key; an accompanist will be provided.  Bring your book and an up-to-date headshot and resume.

Please note: If you have a disability and would like to request reasonable accommodations, please let us know prior to the auditions.
